ABOUT SHRI MULAYAM SINGH YADAV

Mulayam Singh Yadav (born: 22 November 1939 – 10 October 2022) was an Indian politician and former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh . He has also been the Defense Minister of India. He was originally a teacher but leaving teaching, he entered politics . And Samajwadi Party was formed. Netaji was awarded the Padma Vibhushan by the President of India, Mrs. Draupadi Murmu on the eve of 26 January 2023

Political career

Mulayam Singh has been a big socialist and farmer leader of North India. Born in a simple farmer family, Mulayam Singh started his political career as an MLA in Uttar Pradesh. Within a short span of time, Mulayam Singh’s influence was visible in the whole of Uttar Pradesh. 

Mulayam Singh did important work in uplifting the social status of OBC society in Uttar Pradesh. OBCs have an important place in the politics of Uttar Pradesh due to social consciousness. Samajwadi leader Ramsevak Yadav’s main follower (disciple) and with his blessings, Mulayam Singh was elected a member of the Legislative Assembly for the first time in 1967 and became a minister. In 1992, he formed the Samajwadi Party . He was elected thrice respectively from 5 December 1989 to 24 January 1991, from 5 December 1993 to 3 June 1996 and from 29 August 2003 to 11 May 2007.He was the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh . Apart from this, he has also been the Defense Minister in the Central Government. Mulayam Singh is recognized as the biggest leader of the Yadav community in Uttar Pradesh. Mulayam Singh made a bold contribution in maintaining social harmony in Uttar Pradesh. Mulayam Singh is identified as a secular leader. His party Samajwadi Party is considered to be the largest party in Uttar Pradesh. In the political world of Uttar Pradesh, Mulayam Singh Yadav is fondly called Netaji.

In 2012, the Samajwadi Party got an absolute majority in the Legislative Assembly elections of Uttar Pradesh. It was for the first time that the SP was in a position to form the government on its own in Uttar Pradesh. Akhilesh Yadav, the son of Netaji and the state president of SP, raised the issue of corruption against the BSP government loudly and put the agenda of development in front of the state. Impressed by the promises of development of Akhilesh Yadav, he got wide public support in the entire state. When the question of leadership arose after the election, Netaji made Akhilesh Yadav the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh after consultation with senior colleagues. Akhilesh Yadav is the son of Mulayam Singh. Akhilesh Yadav took Uttar Pradesh forward on the path of development following the path shown by the leader.

Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav has been active in politics for the last three decades. After impressing his political mentor Natthusingh in a wrestling competition organized in Mainpuri, Mulayam Singh started his political journey from Natthusingh’s traditional assembly constituency Jaswant Nagar. Mulayam Singh Yadav was elected director of Jaswant Nagar and then Etawah’s Cooperative Bank. The MLA’s election was also contested by ‘Socialist Party’ and then ‘Praja Socialist Party’. He also got victory in this. He had resigned from the teaching job of the school. Mulayam Singh Yadav had to wait till 1977 to become a minister for the first time. When the Janata government was formed in Uttar Pradesh also in the anti-Congress wave. Even in 1980, he was the Minister of State in the Congress government and then became the President of Chaudhary Charan Singh’s Lok Dal and lost the assembly elections. Chaudhary Saheb got nominated in the Legislative Council, where he was also the leader of the opposition.

In 1996, Mulayam Singh Yadav was elected to the 11th Lok Sabha from Mainpuri Lok Sabha constituency and the United Front government that was formed at that time included Mulayam Singh and became the country’s Defense Minister [5 ] . This government did not last very long. There was also talk of making Mulayam Singh Yadav the Prime Minister. He stood at the forefront of the race for the post of Prime Minister, but his co-workers did not support him. Lalu Prasad Yadav and Sharad Yadav destroyed his intention. After this elections were held, Mulayam Singh returned to the Lok Sabha from Sambhal. In fact, he won Kannauj as well, but from there he made his son Akhilesh Yadav a Member of Parliament.
